Sega Dreamcast

These directions will get your Dreamcast connected to DandyNet and the Internet in no time. Please make sure you have your Dreamcast plugged into a phone jack.

 
1. Place the Sega Dreamcast Web Browser disc into the Dreamcast, and turn on console.
 
2. If this is the first time you are configuring the Dreamcast, you should come to this screen below. If you don't come to this screen, press the START key on your controller and move the cursor to OPTIONS and press the red A key.
 
 
3. Using the directional pad on your controller, place the green cursor over the Internet Connection icon and press the red A button. The following screen should appear.
 
 

4. If you have the Sega Keyboard you can key in the following information, otherwise you have to use the on-screen keyboard:

  • Your Real Name: Enter your full name
  • User Login: Enter your DandyNet USERID
  • Password: Enter your DandyNet PASSWORD
  • Dial Up Number: Enter your  DandyNet local access phone number
  • Backup Number: Enter a backup number if the primary number is busy.
  • DNS1: Enter as shown above: 209.128.224.2
  • DNS2: Enter as shown above: 209.128.232.2
 
5. After you enter all the information, move the green cursor over the OK checkmark icon and press the red A button. The following screen should appear.
 
 
6. This screen you enter your dialing options. Specify your area code, long distance call prefix, etc. When you are complete, move the green cursor over the OK checkmark icon and press the red A button on your Sega controller. The following screen should appear.
 
 
7. DandyNet does not use a proxy, so USE PROXY should be set to NO. Place the green cursor over the OK Checkmark icon and press the red A button on your controller. You should be brought back to the main options screen displayed below.
 
 
8. Now we need to setup your DandyNet Email Account, so place the green cursor over the EMAIL ACCOUNT icon and press the red A button on your controller. The following screen will display.
 
 

9. On the Email Account screen, use your Sega Keyboard or the on-screen keyboard to enter the following:

  • Email Login: Enter your DandyNet USERID
  • Email Password: Enter your DandyNet PASSWORD
  • Email Address: Enter your Email address (e.g.. Userid@dandy.net )
  • Incoming Server (POP3): Key in: mail.dandy.net
  • Outgoing Server (SMTP): Key in: mail.dandy.net
  • Checkmark both of the remaining option.
 
10. Move the cursor over the OK Checkmark icon and press the red A button on your controller. You should be brought back to the main options screen shown below.
 
 

11. DandyNet setup is complete. Move the cursor over the SAVE Checkmark icon and press the red A button on your controller.

The following screen will display. This screen is the first screen you will see from now on when you startup your Sega Web Browser.

 
 

At this point you can select ENTER to enter the Sega Dreamcast Network, or you can select EMAIL to read and write Email.

If you select ENTER or Email, the Dreamcast will dial-up DandyNet and connect to the Internet.

When you select ENTER, the following screen displays:

 
 

This is the main page for the Dreamcast. Whenever you start browsing you are initially brought to this location. You can click on the Sega Dreamcast Network icon to go to the Sega Dreamcast Network homepage. From there you can specify other web sites such as http://www.dandy.net . Please refer to the documentation that came with your Dreamcast on how to use and navigate with the Dreamcast browser and Email application.
